Tours that don't suck

One misconception I think that’s out there about international travel is that you have two choices:
A. Join a group tour on a motor coach with 45 other people where you do everything together.

B.  You have to figure it all out on your own.

Today’s tour companies offer many options in between.
Some considerations as you choose a group tour  include:
  • How large of a group do you want be in?
  • What type of accommodations do you want? 5 star hotels? Local home stays? A yacht?
  • How do you want to travel between cities? Local bus? Fly? Train?
  • What are your interests? Art? History? Wine? Food?

One of the benefits of using a travel agent is that I help you sort through the options to find the best fit based on your answers.

Two of my favorite options are the small group tours and the local guide option.

Local guide tours, like those offered by Monograms, give you the support of having a local guide available and the independence of a customized itinerary. We book your airfare, transfers, and hotel through Monograms. Then we add on excursions or day tours that interest you most. When you get to your destination, you’ll have the benefit of a point person to help with any questions and logistics and the complete freedom to see what you want at you pace. Watch this short video to see what a difference a local guide can make:

Small Group tours, like those offered by G Adventures,  include a variety of experiences from  caravan camping trips to small chartered yacht tours of Croatia to National Geographic Journeys. You’ll have the opportunity to explore based on your desired level of adventure and comfort. Group sizes are generally no more than 15 people and average 6 – 8 people. I can even help you customize a private group trip for you and your family and friends.

G Adventures specializes in off the beaten path experience. Check out this 2 minute video on what Day 1 is like on the Hiking Mount Kilimanjaro experience:
